MISSION
The mission of the department is to make the course in computer science a rewarding experience. Computer Science is a disciplines that blends important theories from other disciplines such as Maths, Cognitive Psychology, Engineering, Human Behaviour and Graphical Design. It is a decisive aim of the department to facilitate computational thinking which is an aid to studentβs analytical ability. Importance will be given to thinking recursively, parallel processing, type checking, interpretation of data and other cognitive and numerical skills. By this it is hoped to prepare our students for higher studies and as well as for jobs.
VISION
The aim of the department is to provide a mix of both theory and practice in computing science. This will enable transfer of knowledge and development of skills. The department believes in the philosophy of problem-based learning and this can be achieved only when teaching goes beyond the domain of prescribed texts. Emphasis will be made on creating the distinction between science and applications of scientific knowledge which is technology. The department also believes in interactive teaching methodologies as the effective way of communication.

Applicants who have passed the Higher Secondary Examinations (Academic or Vocational Stream) conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu or an Examination accepted as equivalent thereof by the Syndicate of the University of Madras are eligible for admission.
