DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

MISSION

The mission of the department is to make the course in computer science a rewarding experience. Computer Science is a disciplines that blends important theories from other discipline such as Maths, Cognitive Psychology, Engineering, Human Behaviour and Graphical Design. It is a decisive aim of the department to facilitate computational thinking which is an aid to student’s analytical ability. Importance will be given to thinking recursively, parallel processing, type checking, interpretation of data and other cognitive and numerical skills. By this it is hoped to prepare our students for higher studies and as well as for jobs.

VISION

The aim of the department is to provide a mix of both theory and practice in computing science. This will enable transfer of knowledge and development of skills. The department believes in the philosophy of problem-based learning and this can be achieved only when teaching goes beyond the domain of prescribed texts. Emphasis will be made on creating the distinction between science and applications of scientific knowledge which is technology. The department also believes in interactive teaching methodologies as the effective way of communication.

Srimathi Sundaravalli Memorial Educational Trust, established in 1985, has been unwavering in its commitment to serve the society through education and social care. The Trust has been successfully managing Educational Institution up to the Senior Secondary level and has also taken up the noble responsibility of supporting senior citizens in the age group of 60 to 100. Driven by values and a spirit of service to the community, the Management has been carrying out these initiatives on a non-commercial basis.

The Management runs the Srimathi Sundaravalli Memorial School (A Senior Secondary School, affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi) at Perungalathur, Chennai – 600 063, with a student strength of 6300, providing world-class facilities imbibed with Values and Ethics. The School is a monument to academic excellence.

SSM Residency at Perungalathur is a heaven for the Senior Citizens in the age group of 60 – 100 years. It is a Home away from Home for lifelong living with world-class comfort and peace. The human touch in the two special divisions – Assisted Living and Nursing Assisted Living apart from normal living in the regular individual units, provides great peace and comfort to Senior Citizens. The Trust and its stakeholders, Students, Parents and Staff, cherish all its glory with the kind blessings of the Elders in the Residency.

In furtherance of its long-standing commitment, the Trust has decided to extend its services into the field of higher education. With the approval of the Government of Tamil Nadu vide G.O. No.36 dated 06.03.2025, Department of Higher Education, the Trust will establish Srimathi Sundaravalli Memorial Arts and Science College (Co-Education), commencing from the Academic Year 2025–2026. The College will begin its operations on a well-established campus, fully equipped with all academic and student needs.
